Harish Rao targets Revanth Reddy over river water remarks

HYDERABAD: Former minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of making “false and ignorant statements” on river water issues.
In a statement, Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy had “poured out TMCs of lies and cusecs of ignorance” during his remarks earlier in the day. He mocked the chief minister as a “brand ambassador of lies” and said that if awards were given for falsehoods, Revanth Reddy would be chosen unanimously.
‘No basic knowledge of water disputes’
Harish Rao alleged that it was now evident that the chief minister lacked even basic knowledge of water-sharing issues. He said Revanth Reddy did not know the difference between the Bachawat Tribunal and the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal.
“Seeing the ignorance displayed by Revanth Reddy as chief minister, one wonders how much pain the late Justice Bachawat would have felt,” Harish Rao said. He accused the chief minister of making contradictory statements and using abusive language while claiming to uphold decorum.
He said former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had led the Telangana movement, united four crore people and achieved statehood through sacrifice and struggle. “You do not even understand the meaning of civility and respect,” Harish Rao said, accusing Revanth Reddy of making violent and objectionable remarks against political opponents.
‘Why Delhi meeting if you oppose Godavari diversion?’
Questioning the chief minister’s actions, Harish Rao asked why Revanth Reddy attended a meeting in Delhi and constituted a committee if he was genuinely fighting the Godavari–Banakacherla issue in the Supreme Court.
“Why was the committee formed secretly without informing the public? Forming a committee itself opens the doors for Andhra Pradesh’s water diversion,” he alleged.
Harish Rao accused Revanth Reddy of spreading falsehoods by claiming that K Chandrashekar Rao had agreed to 299 TMCs of Krishna water. He said that if this were true, KCR would not have written to the Centre within 42 days seeking redistribution of the entire 811 TMCs.
He said KCR had earlier demanded 69% of the 811 TMCs for Telangana, while Revanth Reddy was now claiming 71% as a new position. “Why are you hiding facts and indulging in propaganda?” Harish Rao asked, adding that approaching the Supreme Court was necessary if the Centre failed to respond.
