Why Harish Rao says the countdown has begun in Revanth Reddy’s own hometown

Harish Rao On Farmer Protest Target Revanth

HYDERABAD: Farmers near Kondareddipalle, the native village of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, blocked the Srisailam-Hyderabad National Highway on September 10, protesting inadequate electricity supply to agricultural fields.

The protesters used tractors to block the highway and staged a flash protest, alleging that insufficient power supply was affecting irrigation and threatening standing crops.

Farmers allege inadequate power supply to agricultural fields

The agitation comes amid complaints from farmers in the area over power availability for agricultural operations. Farmers alleged that their fields were receiving only six to eight hours of electricity, leaving crops dependent on borewells vulnerable.

BRS leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government over the issue and recalled its pre-election promise of providing 24-hour quality free power to farmers.

“The Congress government, which boasted before the elections about providing 24 hours of quality free electricity, has now sunk to the sorry state of not even being able to supply farmers with a proper six to eight hours of power after coming to power,” Harish Rao said.

Harish Rao targets Congress government over power supply

Harish Rao said farmers had been forced to take to the national highway because of the power shortage and questioned the government’s response to their concerns.

“When farmers have to come onto the national highway for electricity—a stone’s throw from the Chief Minister’s own village—is this what they call ‘people’s rule’?” he said.

He asked whether Revanth Reddy could resolve farmers’ problems in his own area and demanded that the government restore 24-hour power supply to agricultural fields.

The protest follows similar complaints from farmers in neighbouring areas. Farmers in Polkampally, adjacent to Kondareddipalle, had also protested over inadequate power supply in August, alleging that they were receiving around nine to 10 hours of electricity.
