Harish Rao questions RTC poll promises

HYDERABAD: Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Harish Rao raised questions over unfulfilled assurances to State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) employees during the Assembly session.
Questions raised on dues, PRC, and financial status
He said the Congress government failed to honour promises made to RTC workers before elections. He recalled that the previous BRS government had recognised RTC staff as government employees.
Referring to the Governor’s address, Harish Rao said the government claimed savings of ₹9,200 crore due to free travel for women. “Has the state paid this ₹9,200 crore to RTC or not?” he asked. He sought clarity on pending dues payable to the corporation.
He also questioned whether RTC was currently in profit or loss. “If the organisation is in profit, why are employee benefits, arrears and CCS dues not cleared?” he said.
Harish Rao said a new Pay Revision Commission (PRC) for RTC employees was due for three years. He asked the government to specify when it would be implemented.
Demand for union revival and clarity on employee status
He noted that the Congress had promised to restore RTC unions in its election manifesto. He asked the minister to state when the unions would be revived.
He also referred to the previous government’s decision to recognise RTC employees as government staff through a gazette notification. He asked the government to clarify from which date it would treat them as government employees.
Bus shortage flagged across constituencies
Harish Rao said several constituencies, including Siddipet, were facing a shortage of buses. Depot managers were unable to meet demand, citing lack of vehicles, he said.
He asked whether the government had plans to add buses based on traffic demand. He also sought a timeline for replacing old buses that had completed their service life.
He said the government must fulfil all commitments made to RTC workers and address both employee demands and bus shortages without delay.
