HYDERABAD: Marshals and police stopped members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) at Assembly entry points on Wednesday after they staged a protest at Gun Park, demanding procurement centres and a ₹500 bonus for maize farmers.

The legislators held maize cobs during the protest and sought immediate procurement with support price benefits.

Marshals’ conduct draws protest from BRS leaders

BRS legislators alleged that marshals behaved roughly while preventing them from entering the Assembly premises. They said marshals seized maize cobs from their hands without regard for their status as elected representatives.

Former minister Harish Rao sustained an injury to his hand during the scuffle, which led to bleeding. He criticised the conduct of marshals and police.

Legislators raise slogans at Assembly entrance

BRS MLAs and MLCs staged a protest at the Assembly entrance before entering the House. They raised slogans against the police and the government, alleging unfair treatment.

The members later proceeded into the Assembly after the protest.
