Harish Rao addressing media in Hyderabad on Maisaiah death

HYDERABAD:  Harish Rao on Wednesday held the Congress government responsible for the death of retired sub-inspector Maisaiah from Khammam district, alleging that delay in clearing retirement dues forced the family into distress.

Responding on X, the former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi Legislature Party deputy leader said the government’s “negligence” led to the death of the retired officer, who was awaiting payment of his retirement benefits.

BRS alleges ₹60 lakh dues pending

Maisaiah, who retired in February last year, was reportedly entitled to around ₹60 lakh in retirement benefits. Rao alleged that the government failed to release the amount even after a year, pushing the family into severe financial hardship.

He said both Maisaiah and his wife were unwell and could not pay hospital bills due to lack of funds. Fellow retired police officers had to contribute money to shift the body home after the family failed to clear hospital dues, he added.

Calling the incident a “murder by the Congress government”, Rao said the administration must take responsibility for the situation.

Flags police welfare concerns

Rao alleged that the government was not clearing surrender leave bills of serving police personnel and had stalled the Aarogya Bhadhrata health scheme for police families.

He claimed that under the previous government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, police families received treatment in private hospitals, but many were now facing hardship due to lack of medical support.

He further alleged that even monthly maintenance allowances for police stations were not being released, forcing station officers to spend from their own pockets or borrow money to run operations.

Seeks ex gratia, clearance of dues

Rao demanded immediate release of all pending dues to Maisaiah’s family along with special ex gratia. He also sought government-funded treatment for the officer’s wife, who is undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.

He urged the government to clear pending retirement benefits across the state and restore surrender leave payments, health coverage and station maintenance funds for police personnel.
