HAMRL speeds up DPR work, conducts field survey on North Hyderabad metro routes

Hyderabad: The work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the North City Metro corridors has picked up space as the Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail Limited (HAMRL) is expected to complete it by March.
Led by HMRL managing director NVS Reddy, a team of experts and senior officials have initiated the groundwork to finalize the new metro routes – Medchal and Shamirpet corridors. The proposed corridors are Paradise-Medchal corridor (23 km) which includes 5.32 km double-decker and 17.6 km elevated sections while the JBS-Shamirpet corridor will be a double-decker corridor throughout the 22-km length.
The authorities are carrying out a detailed field survey on these corridors’ routes. Their study primarily focuses on technical aspects and challenges on these routes.
To enhance urban mobility and convenience for Hyderabad residents, the metro will feature double-decker corridors, with elevated piers designed to accommodate both road and metro facilities.
Since both the routes will use elevated double-decker designs, the officials are planning to utilize maximum space while reducing the construction costs significantly.
Due to sharp road curves along the Begumpet Airport boundary and restrictions imposed by airport authorities, the elevated metro stretch between Paradise and Bowenpally will be redesigned. The HAMRL and HMDA will coordinate on technical and construction aspects, including pier heights and station planning.
After assessing several areas along the two corridors, NVS Reddy said the chief minister Revanth Reddy’s vision is to develop JBS as a global metro hub. He said the authorities will acquire 30 acres of government and defense land around JBS to develop state-of-the-art facilities. The integration of the Medchal corridor with the JBS hub will provide direct connectivity to the Airport Corridor via MGBS and Chandrayangutta, creating a 60-km-long metro network.
