Police display recovered 95.4 grams gold ornaments in Habsiguda theft case

HYDERABAD: The Osmania University Police arrested a 43-year-old domestic worker for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and cash from the residence of a retired scientist in Habsiguda. Police said they recovered 95.4 grams of gold ornaments and ₹8,000 in cash, collectively valued at ₹3,88,000.

The case was registered as Crime No. 89/2026 under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code at the Osmania University police station.

The complainant, Dr P L K M Rao, 79, a retired scientist residing at Green Hills Colony, Habsiguda, reported the theft of gold ornaments weighing 95.4 grams, valued at ₹3,80,000, and ₹10,000 in cash.

The accused, Allam Tejasvi, a resident of Malreddy Nagar, Almasguda, Badangpet, was working as a maid at the complainant’s residence for a monthly salary of ₹18,000.

Police said the accused hails from Kondanagula village in Achampet mandal of Nagar Kurnool district. She had earlier run a small kirana store, which closed due to losses, leading to debts.

According to police, she began working at the complainant’s house in June 2025 after being referred by a local resident. During her employment, she gained the trust of the elderly couple.

Between October 2025 and February 23, 2026, she allegedly stole gold items  including chains, bangles, rings and a two-row chandraharam from a cupboard while cleaning the house and bedroom on different days.

Police apprehended the accused at Habsiguda bus stop at 07.30 IST on February 25, 2026, and formally arrested her at 11.30 IST the same day. She was produced before the IV Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded to judicial custody.

The stolen property was recovered intact.

The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector P Karunakar with assistance from the crime staff under the supervision of Inspector M Mahesh and Assistant Commissioner of Police G Jagan of Osmania University division. The case is being monitored by Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshita K Murty, IPS, Secunderabad Zone.
