H-FAST raid uncovers illegal fast-food godown in Charminar; 110 kg fried chicken, adulterated materials seized
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), along with a Food Safety Officer, raided an alleged illegal fast-food godown in the Charminar area and seized adulterated food materials, reused cooking oil and artificial food colours.
Acting on specific information, the team conducted a surprise inspection at Al Akbar Fast Food and Godown at New Laad Bazar, Panch Mohalla, under the limits of Hussainialam police station.
Officials found that food items were being prepared and stored in unhygienic conditions that allegedly posed a risk to public health. During the inspection, the establishment was found operating without a mandatory Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence.
Authorities also detected the use of prohibited or artificial food colours, including MSK Lion Green and Raspberry Red, and found stale cooking oil being reused. Officials noted the absence of water analysis certification, quality-control measures and pest-control arrangements.
During the raid, the team seized around 110 kg of prepared fried chicken, six tins of loose cooking oil containing 15 litres each, and artificial chemical food colours.
Two persons allegedly involved in running the operation were apprehended.
Officials said consumption of adulterated and unhygienic food could lead to food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal infections and other health complications. Repeated consumption of reused cooking oil may also pose long-term health risks, while artificial food colours can trigger allergic reactions and toxicity.
A case has been registered at Hussainialam police station under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and other applicable laws. The accused and the seized material were handed over to the Station House Officer of Hussainialam police station for further investigation and legal action.
Hyderabad City Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration and urged citizens to purchase food only from licensed establishments, verify FSSAI licences and report unsafe food practices.
