JAGTIAL: The release of Gulf ex-gratia assistance to 50 bereaved families in Jagtial district has been stalled despite the State government sanctioning ₹2.5 crore, allegedly due to inaction by officials of the General Administration Department’s NRI wing at the Secretariat.

Each eligible family is to receive ₹5 lakh as financial assistance following the death of migrant workers in Gulf countries. District Collector B. Satya Prasad has submitted the required reports to the State government on multiple occasions after completing verification of passports, death certificates, family details and bank accounts through mandal tahsildars.

Officials and local representatives have acknowledged the district administration for completing scrutiny and forwarding applications without delay.

Providing constituency-wise details, Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice-chairman of the NRI Advisory Committee appointed by the Telangana government, said 19 families in Korutla constituency, 14 in Dharmapuri, seven in Jagtial, six in Vemulawada and four in Choppadandi had been sanctioned assistance. The total sanctioned amount works out to ₹2.5 crore.

However, the sanctioned amount is yet to be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Sources said the delay was due to negligence at the Secretariat level, even as all formalities had been completed at the district end.

The affected families have appealed to the district in-charge minister and Dharmapuri MLA Adluri Lakshman Kumar, besides other MLAs, MLCs and MPs from the region, to intervene and ensure immediate release of funds.

Several families said the delay had added to their hardship, as many of them depended on the deceased workers’ income and had been waiting for the ex-gratia for months.
