Group-1 Mains exams scheduled

Hyderabad: Amid protests against the Group-1 Mains examinations, the Telangana government has confirmed that the exams will begin on Monday, October 21, as per the schedule released by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC).

Chief minister Revanth Reddy said 95 percent of the 31,000 candidates who were selected for the Mains examination have downloaded their hall tickets. He hoped that the remaining 5 percent would also collect their hall tickets and avoid regrets in the future. He added that the TGPSC cannot cancel or postpone the examinations after issuing a notification.

Speaking at the Telangana Police Academy on Saturday, Revanth Reddy said the Congress government is committed to filling vacant posts in various departments. He said the recruitment agency has followed GO 29 transparently, and candidates were selected for the Mains with a ratio of 1:50 from the preliminary exam results.

Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender said that elaborate security arrangements have been made for the Group-1 Mains examinations, which will be held from October 21 to 27. Speaking directly to the agitating candidates, the police chief said they should take their grievances to the Supreme Court and not cause inconvenience to the people by staging protests on roads.

The candidates have been protesting against GO 29 on recruitment and reservation policies and calling for the rescheduling of Group-1 Mains examinations. Earlier in the day, Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar joined their protest at Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad. Subsequently, he led the Chalo Secretariat march along with the aspirants. However, the police foiled it.
