GPS-tagged vulture sparks alarm in Medak village

MEDAK: Panic broke out among villagers after a vulture fitted with a GPS tracker was spotted on the outskirts of Bairan Dibba in Alladurgam mandal of Medak district on January 18, 2026.
The bird had a numbered sticker attached to its leg, prompting villagers to alert forest officials.
Bird traced to Maharashtra
Forest officials said the vulture had migrated from Maharashtra and was part of a conservation programme.
Officials ask public not to panic
They clarified that GPS trackers are being fitted to monitor and protect endangered vulture species and said there was no cause for concern.
