Golden Heights Colony road in Attapur floods after every rain, residents demand permanent fix

HYDERABAD: Residents of the Golden Heights colonies in Attapur say a stretch of their main road becomes unusable after even a brief spell of rain, and that repeated complaints to civic authorities are closed without any resolution.
Speaking to HyderabadMail, Salman, a resident of the area, said the problem has persisted for about a year and affects a cluster of 10 to 14 colonies that share the same main road. “Even with just a little rain, the water stays there, it is a constant problem,” he said. He described the waterlogging as severe enough to disrupt daily movement for what he estimates are thousands of residents in the area.
Salman said the affected area is the main road through Golden Heights Colony, near a bakery in Attapur, close to pillar No. 230. He said the road is a key link, carries heavy vehicles every day, and floods along its length, affecting several colonies.
He said he has raised the issue with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWSSB), and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on prior occasions, including complaints about blocked or inadequate stormwater inlets. According to Salman, the civic bodies have repeatedly closed these complaints without any field resolution. “They closed this complaint too, without any resolution,” he said, referring to his most recent submission.
Residents seek a permanent fix
Salman said GHMC and HMDA teams have visited the site before, but they have not fixed the drainage problem. Waterlogging happens every time it rains, no matter how little. He wants a permanent engineering solution to the drainage bottleneck instead of repeated temporary fixes. He said the colony cannot keep facing problems every time it rains.
Residents of Golden Heights want GHMC, HMWSSB, and HMDA to inspect the stormwater drainage and inlet infrastructure along the road and to do the needed repairs, instead of closing complaints without solving the problem on site.
