Six years of waiting: Golden City residents demand new roads
Hyderabad: Residents of Golden City, Pillar No. 248, Shivarampalli, Hyderabad, are voicing their frustration over the poor condition of local roads and are urging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to allocate funds for new roads.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Patel, a long-time resident, expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, “The roads at Golden City, Pillar No. 248, Shivarampalli, Hyderabad, are in a terrible and pathetic condition. We have been living here for the past six years and facing severe waterlogging each year. Although GHMC constructed a storm drain last year after multiple complaints, it has failed to drain the rainwater effectively due to the absence of a proper CC road, leading to significant inconvenience.”
Patel added, “We have repeatedly complained to GHMC, and each time, we are told that a proposal has been submitted and is awaiting sanction.”
He explained the urgency of the situation, saying, “We request the concerned officials to approve the budget and lay the roads immediately. The current conditions are unbearable; vehicles are skidding, and accidents are occurring frequently.”
Patel also took to ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, tagging the GHMC official handle, and posted, “Hey GHMC, when will the Golden City main road be fixed? Every year, the road turns into a lake whenever it rains. Despite an annual budget of Rs. 10,000 crore, you can’t allocate a few crores to build a CC road that we’ve been waiting for over six years? We pay substantial income tax, property tax, and other taxes but receive third-world infrastructure in return. Where is our tax money? In a season of demolitions, show some courage to build something new. A world-class city needs world-class infrastructure, not just promises. Wake up, GHMC. Location: Golden City, Pillar No. 248, Shivarampalli.”
Hey @GHMCOnline

In response, an official, P. Venkobha, stated, “We regret the inconvenience caused. The necessary road proposals have been submitted for approval, and the work will commence soon.”
Patel questioned the delay, saying, “Every time I raise this complaint, I receive the same response. Why is it not being sanctioned? Why is it not treated as urgent when it causes such significant inconvenience to residents? Why is there different treatment for different areas in the city?”
