Golconda Fort gets lightning protection, CCTV coverage upgraded

HYDERABAD: The Golconda Fort now has advanced lightning protection systems and upgraded surveillance infrastructure, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) said.
ASI installed two lightning conductors, each 23 metres high, at the hilltop fort, which frequently faces lightning strikes. These systems can withstand strikes up to 120 metres and protect key upper sections, including the durbar hall. The project cost ₹10 lakh.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that similar conductors are now in place at Ramappa Temple, Warangal Fort, and the Thousand Pillar Temple.
CCTV network expanded for better monitoring
In addition, ASI has expanded the fort’s surveillance network by installing more CCTV cameras. As a result, authorities now monitor every corner of the monument round the clock, covering all public movement.
“We now observe the entire fort through a central control room,” said Mallesham, conservation assistant.
Visitor facilities improved with accessibility features
To make the site more inclusive, authorities built a ramp at the entrance for specially abled visitors. Moreover, they installed solar-powered automatic lighting to boost security and support night-time guarding.
Furthermore, ASI introduced QR codes at 20 locations across the fort. These codes offer information on the fort’s history, builders, and galleries in Hindi, English, and Telugu through both text and video formats.
