GMR School of Aviation launches integrated AME courses in partnership with Airbus
Hyderabad: The GMR School of Aviation has launched two new 4-year integrated Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) courses in collaboration with Airbus. The domestic and international licensed AME courses have been certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), respectively.
The first batch of students and their parents were given a warm and cordial orientation and welcome as part of the opening ceremony at the GMR School of Aviation campus, situated within the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone in GMR Group’s commitment to fostering excellence in aviation education and training on July 18, 2024.
This marked the first of three welcoming sessions, during which students and parents could interact with GMR Group’s top leadership, tour the institute’s instructors, and more.
The school is launching a comprehensive 4-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program, consisting of 2 years of academic training followed by 2 years of on-the-job training. This will include type training and will be the first institution in India to offer a combined B1.1 and B2 AME licensing program. Additionally, the school will provide Aircraft Specific Type Training Courses, as well as Ancillary Courses such as Aircraft Structures and Aircraft Composite Courses.
Airbus will provide the necessary courseware, including technical handbooks, examination databases, and access to the Airbus Competence Training (ACT) for Academy media package. Airbus will also qualify GMR instructors and assess the training center, ensuring the highest standards of aviation education.
Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited; PS Nair, Chief Executive Director at GMR Airports Limited; DB Murali, Vice President of the GMR School of Aviation; and Dinesh Bohra, CEO, of GMR Aero Technic, the senior management of GMR, and staff were present at the event and addressed the students and their parents with words of encouragement and wisdom.
The school was digitally launched in 2024 at the Wings India aviation summit, and the foundation stone was laid in 2021 by the then-Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation & Steel, Jyotiraditya Scindia. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a shift in the date of commencement of the course.
The GMR School of Aviation is poised to become a global benchmark and center of excellence in the field of Aviation Education, setting new standards and raising the bar of aviation education worldwide. As the MRO industry is expected to grow to over US$ 2.4 billion by 2028, this school will be a game-changer, equipping students with the expertise to succeed in the burgeoning aviation industry globally.
