HYDERABAD: Food Safety teams of the Cyberabad Commissionerate inspected Gismat Jail Mandi in Madeenaguda as part of ongoing food safety monitoring and found multiple violations, including the absence of a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence and improper storage of meat items.

Officials said raw and semi-prepared non-vegetarian food items were found without labels. Chicken, mutton and fish were allegedly stored in unsafe conditions and were discarded during the inspection.

The inspection team also found that the establishment failed to produce pest control records, water testing reports and medical fitness records of food handlers.

Kitchen and storage areas found unhygienic

Authorities said the dishwashing area had water and food stagnation, while raw material storage areas were untidy. Food handlers were reportedly working without aprons and gloves.

Officials also noted the use of iron knives and damaged chopping boards. Poor lighting was observed in the kitchen and storage sections.

Hygiene score below prescribed benchmark

The food outlet scored 43 out of 102 in the hygiene assessment, amounting to a hygiene percentage of 43%. Officials said establishments scoring below 50% attract a show cause notice.

The inspection team issued a show cause notice to the management and directed immediate rectification of hygiene lapses. Unsafe food items found during the inspection were discarded on the spot.

Authorities urged citizens to report food safety concerns through the MyCURE App or by tagging the Cyberabad Commissionerate on X.
