GHMC conducts Special Intensive Revision awareness session with RWAs in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Representatives of the United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) and members of various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across Greater Hyderabad attended an interactive awareness session on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at the GHMC Head Office.
Additional Commissioner (Elections) Chandrakala and Additional Commissioner Vakil led the session. The officials provided detailed insights into the SIR process, which they are undertaking to ensure accuracy, inclusiveness, and updating of electoral rolls across the city.
Explaining the methodology, Chandrakala explained that officials will carry out the SIR exercise across 15 Assembly constituencies within Hyderabad District under GHMC limits. She elaborated on the methodology of voter mapping within families, based on electoral rolls from 2002 and 2025, aiming to identify and correct discrepancies such as duplicate, shifted, deceased, or ineligible entries.
Addressing participant engagement, she clarified queries that participating RWA representatives raised and sought their cooperation to ensure successful implementation of the SIR exercise.
Officials highlighted during the session that the SIR initiative aims to ensure accuracy and purity of electoral rolls, include all eligible citizens (aged 18 years and above), remove duplicate, deceased, and shifted voters, and correct errors in voter details.
Emphasizing citizen involvement, officials encouraged citizens to verify their details by visiting the official election website or by contacting Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
On behalf of U-FERWAS, General Secretary B. T. Srinivasan requested that authorities reinstate the earlier SMS-based voter verification service, which allowed citizens to check their voter registration status using their EPIC number. He noted that the service is currently unavailable and urged its restoration to enhance public convenience.
