GHMC seizes Jayalalitha house in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has seized a house linked to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha in Hyderabad for non-payment of property tax.
The house, located in Yousufguda, was sealed after dues remained unpaid for several years, officials said. Jayalalitha also owns a G+4 building in Srinagar Colony, which is part of the tax records under scrutiny.
Dues total ₹83 lakh, recovery action initiated
Officials said property tax has not been paid since 2017 despite multiple notices issued to the property owners. With no response to repeated reminders, GHMC invoked provisions under municipal laws to recover pending dues.
The outstanding amount is estimated at about ₹83 lakh. Officials said the seizure is part of a broader drive to recover long-pending property taxes across the city.
Drive against tax defaulters continues across city
GHMC has intensified enforcement against property tax defaulters in recent months. Civic officials said similar action will be taken against other properties where dues remain unpaid despite notices.
They urged property owners to clear pending taxes to avoid penalties, sealing of premises, or further legal action under municipal regulations.
