GHMC officials sealing Katriya Hotel premises in Hyderabad over tax dues

HYDERABAD: Daily operations continued at Katriya Hotel on Raj Bhavan Road despite civic officials sealing the premises on Monday over unpaid property tax dues.

Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sealed the hotel after it failed to clear ₹61.6 crore in arrears. However, the management continued room bookings and customer services without removing the official lock.

Accommodation and food services remained operational until circle officials intervened and ordered a complete halt to business activities.

Civic officials intensify action against property tax defaulters

Following the directive, hotel staff asked tourists and other guests who had already booked rooms to vacate the premises.

The GHMC has stepped up action against persistent property tax defaulters. On Tuesday, officials sealed several shops in different localities for non-payment of dues.

Authorities locked a shop in MM Pahadi with pending tax of ₹11 lakh. Another shop was sealed in Katedan.

With the financial year set to end on March 31, the tax collection wing has intensified recovery efforts. Officials said the GHMC has so far collected ₹847.1 crore in property tax.

The highest collection was recorded in Khairatabad zone at ₹375 crore, while the lowest was in Charminar zone at ₹59 crore, officials added.
