GHMC announces one-time settlement on property tax dues

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has announced a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme for property tax arrears, offering a 90% waiver on pending dues for both private and government properties.
Under the scheme, property owners need to pay only 10% of the outstanding amount along with the principal property tax to settle their dues, GHMC said.
Applies to expanded GHMC limits
The offer follows the recent expansion of the Greater Hyderabad limits. Twenty municipalities and seven municipal corporations located within the Outer Ring Road have been merged into the GHMC, as per a government notification.
With the existing property tax structure now extended to these areas, the civic body expects a significant increase in revenue.
All properties covered
GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan said the OTS scheme would apply to all government and private properties within the Greater Hyderabad municipal limits.
Expansion cleared by government
The state cabinet approved the GHMC expansion on November 25. The GHMC Act was framed on December 1 and received the Governor’s assent the same day. On December 2, the Chief Secretary issued a notification formally merging 27 urban local bodies into GHMC.
Following the expansion, the government issued delimitation orders increasing the number of corporator wards from 150 to 300.
