GHMC seals major properties over tax dues

HYDERABAD: With the financial year nearing its close, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has stepped up action against property tax defaulters, shifting from incentives to strict enforcement.
Following directions from Commissioner R.V. Karnan, deputy commissioners in all 30 circles have started sealing properties of major defaulters.
On March 23, the Khairatabad team sealed Katriya Hotel in Somajiguda for unpaid property tax dues of ₹6.16 crore pending since 2017. In another case, officials seized Swarna Transport in Goshamahal over dues of ₹36 lakh. They also sealed a clothing store on Road No. 10 for defaulting on ₹35.27 lakh.
OTS scheme offers limited relief
GHMC has introduced a One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to encourage defaulters to clear their dues. Under the scheme, taxpayers can pay just 10% of the interest on arrears.
The Commissioner said taxpayers must make all payments online.
They can pay through the GHMC website, the MyGHMC (My-CURE) mobile app, Mee Seva centres, or Citizen Service Centres, the statement said.
