GHMC Official in Rajendranagar Convicted for Bribery

Rajendra Nagar: In a significant development, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) working in Rajendra Nagar zone was convicted by the Principal Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases, Hyderabad.

The tainted official was identified as Jilagam Venkateshwara Rao, a Senior Assistant working at Circle No. VI, Rajendranagar, GHMC.

According to the ACB, the case was registered against the accused officer, Jilagam Venkateshwara Rao in 2014. The accused officer demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant. The bribe was allegedly taken for showing official favor, “for doing mutation of the Plot (name change), for waiving off the vacant plot tax and for fixing the old property tax of the Plot. No. 909, Door No.8-15-32/909, Shastripuram, which belongs to the uncle of the complainant”.

“The accused officer has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for the offense punishable under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. In default of the fine payment, the accused officer will have to undergo a simple imprisonment for one month,” said ACB in a statement.

Additionally, the accused officer has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for the offense punishable under Section 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Again, in default of the fine payment, the accused officer will have to undergo a simple imprisonment for one month.Both the sentences will run concurrently.
