GHMC orders closure of slaughterhouses, meat shops on September 4
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ordered the closure of all sheep and goat and cattle slaughterhouses, as well as retail meat and beef shops, within its limits on September 4, 2026, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.
Order issued under GHMC Act citing Janmashtami
The order was issued under Section 533(b) of the GHMC Act, 1955. The civic body said the decision was taken considering the significance of Janmashtami.
Police asked to help enforce closure across GHMC
GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan has requested the Commissioners of Police of Hyderabad to extend full cooperation to municipal authorities in enforcing the closure.
The order applies to sheep and goat and cattle slaughterhouses and meat and beef shops across the GHMC limits on September 4.
