Hyderabad: On Monday, January 20, 2024, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi inspected a 2,000 square yard plot behind the Jubilee Hills Police Station that had been encroached upon. After the inspection, she ordered officials to take immediate control of the land and clear the area using machinery.

The GHMC Mayor expressed strong disapproval over the illegal use of the land, which was being cultivated for vegetables without permission.

“Encroaching on public land is unacceptable, and strict action will be taken to prevent such activities,” Vijaya Lakshmi stated.

Additionally, the Mayor found that the GHMC signboard, which had been placed outside the plot to mark its ownership, had been removed and relocated inside the encroached area by private individuals. Officials have been instructed to seize the plot and take necessary action.

In a separate incident, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out a demolition drive at Lake View Villas in Neknampur, Manikonda, on the morning of January 10, 2025. The demolitions were carried out under heavy police security, following the orders of HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.

Earlier, on January 9, Commissioner Ranganath inspected encroachments near Neknampur Lake in Manikonda, emphasizing the need for stringent measures against illegal constructions. During the visit, Ranganath directed the removal of soil dumped on the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the lake and cautioned against blocking the canals and nalas feeding into the waterbody.
