GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi officially joins Congress, enhancing party’s presence in Telangana. Her father, senior BRS leader K Keshava Rao, also expresses intent to rejoin Congress after meeting with CM Revanth Reddy. The move signifies a positive reinforcement for Congress in GHMC region.
GHMC mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has officially joined the Congress party in a significant move that is set to boost the party’s presence in Telangana. The Mayor’s joining ceremony took place in the presence of TPCC president and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. This development comes as a positive reinforcement for the Congress in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region. Notably, Vijayalakshmi’s father, K Keshava Rao, a senior BRS leader and Rajya Sabha member, has also expressed his intention to rejoin the Congress. Keshava Rao, who had previously served as the PCC president, shared his decision after meeting with the Chief Minister and state Congress chief Revanth Reddy. He emphasized his long-standing association with the Congress, spanning over 55 years, stating his commitment to ‘ghar vapsi’ or returning to his political roots. When questioned about his decision to leave BRS, Keshava Rao cited his allegiance to the national party as the primary reason. Additionally, former BRS MLC Puranam Satish has also made the switch to the Congress, according to party sources. Vijayalakshmi’s entry into the Congress, alongside prominent leaders, including Deepa Dasmunsi, the AICC incharge of party affairs in Telangana, is anticipated to bolster the party’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, particularly within the GHMC limits. In the recent Assembly polls, the Congress secured a majority but did not clinch any of the 24 seats falling under the GHMC jurisdiction. The latest affiliations and declarations signal a strategic move by the Congress to strengthen its position in the region.
