GHMC launches smart parking in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will roll out a ‘Smart Parking on Streets’ project to address daily parking issues faced by thousands across the city.
The civic body will introduce a dedicated link in the MyGHMC mobile application to implement the on-street parking system. Officials said motorists can check and book available slots through the app.
Sensors to enable real-time slot booking
The proposal was initiated last year in the Khairatabad zone when then zonal commissioner Anurag Jayanti invited bids from interested agencies. Two firms secured the contract following the tender process.
GHMC has allotted 14 locations, seven each to the two agencies. Parking slots will be marked with lane markings, and sensors will be installed to detect vacant spaces. The sensors will record whether a vehicle occupies a slot and update the information in real time on the MyGHMC app.
Motorists can view available parking slots within a 500-metre radius and book them by paying the prescribed fee, officials said.
EV charging stations planned in select areas
Electric vehicle charging stations will also be set up at selected locations. Officials said work on the parking centres will begin shortly. The civic body will review the outcomes before expanding the system citywide.
