GHMC initiates on Dengue control strategies

Hyderabad: In an attempt to curb the menace of dengue cases, Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation (GHMC) officials decided to deploy volunteers to conduct awareness programmes in Basthi Dawakhana and schools and to spray pyrethrum in and around house where dengue cases have been identified. These are some of the important decision taken during the coordination meeting held on controlling dengue cases in GHMC limits on Tuesday.

“Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities will be taken up regularly, with the involvement of school children on every Saturday. Involvement of Biology Teachers to explain about mosquito borne diseases and their prevention along with an exhibition for school children. Every Sunday house to house special activities will be conducted. Bulk messages will be sent to the public for creating mosquito borne disease awareness, said chief entomologist Dr Rambabu.

Across the city it was decided to recruit 5000 volunteers and impart proper training to create awareness in government and private schools. Further it was decided to conduct special drives in all the identified hotspots, and dengue prone areas in coordination with senior entomologists.

“To combat dengue, all houses with reported cases must be sprayed with pyrethrum, as well as at least 30 to 50 surrounding houses. Additionally, all mosquito-related grievances received through GHMC online, My GHMC App, emails, Twitter, general public complaints, corporators, and VIPs should be addressed daily” said official statement released by GHMC.

Medical teams were directed to conduct a medical checkup of all the members of the household. Concerned teams should take up intensive IEC activity preferably Inter-personnel Communication mode and other material supplied. In view of the above, GHMC is taking up all precautions for effective surveillance and control of mosquito breeding and spread of vector borne diseases.

Earlier the Principal Secretary, of Municipal Administration and Urban Development(MA&UD), M.Dana Kishore, Telangana conducted a review meeting on control of Dengue in GHMC on Monday.
