Hyderabad GHMC issues final warning to property tax defaulters

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued a final warning to major property tax defaulters in the city. Several corporate firms, hotels and real estate businesses have allegedly avoided paying property tax for years.
GHMC records show commercial property owners across key areas of the city owe about ₹900 crore to ₹1,000 crore in property tax dues. Officials said “red notices” are being issued as a final warning before initiating legal action.
GHMC releases top ten defaulters list
The corporation released a list of the top ten commercial property tax defaulters. Hyderabad Asbestos Cement tops the list with dues of ₹13 crore.
Krupa Devi owes ₹6.4 crore, while Sri Lakshmi Gayatri Hotels (Katriya Hotels) has pending dues of ₹6.13 crore. Sandesh Estates Private Limited in Jubilee Hills owes ₹4.45 crore.
Hyderabad Industries Limited and ITL Industries Limited each have dues of ₹3.5 crore. M S Sundar Steels in Rajendranagar owes ₹2.95 crore.
Ashi Realtors has pending tax of ₹2.37 crore, while Pre Steels Fabrics in Yousufguda owes ₹2.23 crore. Leela Hotels (Hotel Leela Venture) has dues of ₹1.5 crore, according to GHMC records.
GHMC warns of property seizure under municipal law
Officials said strict action will follow if dues are not cleared even after the red notices.
Under Section 269 of the GHMC Act, the civic body can issue distress warrants. Authorities may seal shops and properties and seize movable assets, including vehicles, to recover pending tax.
The corporation also reminded defaulters that the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme deadline ends on March 31.
