GHMC cracks down on food safety violations in Secunderabad

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted intensive inspections of hotels and food establishments in the Secunderabad zone and issued notices to two outlets for violating food safety norms.

The drive was carried out under official directions to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards. It was led by Secunderabad Zonal Commissioner Mangatayaru.

Gazetted Food Inspector Laxmi Kanth, Food Safety Officers Swathi and Sahiti, along with the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Solid Waste Management officials of Kavadiguda Circle, took part in the inspections.

Expired items, poor sanitation detected

Officials found poor hygiene and sanitation conditions in some kitchens. They also noted improper maintenance of mandatory records.

Expired food items were found stored on the premises. In certain cases, unauthorised food colours were reportedly being used.

GHMC issued notices to the managements concerned. Authorities said further action would be initiated under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

GHMC warns of stringent legal action

The corporation reiterated that all hotels and food establishments across Greater Hyderabad must strictly follow prescribed food safety and hygiene standards.

It warned that stringent legal action would be taken against establishments compromising public health through unsafe or unhygienic practices.
