GHMC Superintending Engineer’s Office official held for ₹15-lakh bribe

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on February 4 arrested a Superintending Engineer and a computer operator from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Kukatpally Zone for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15 lakh from a contractor.
Officials said the accused officer, Podduturi Chinna Reddy, demanded the amount through Balasani Praveen Kumar, an outsourced computer operator in his office. The bribe was allegedly sought for verifying works executed by the complainant and forwarding bills worth ₹1.4 crore to the Zonal Commissioner for approval.
Bribe money seized from operator’s possession
ACB officials said the tainted amount was recovered from Praveen Kumar’s possession at his instance. Both the accused were arrested and produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB Cases for judicial remand.
The Bureau stated that the officers “performed their duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.” The case is under investigation, and the complainant’s identity has been withheld for security reasons.
