Ponnam Prabhakar Apologises To Adluri Laxman, Ends ‘buffalo Remark’ Row

HYDERABAD: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday said the government has formed a cabinet sub-committee to examine the division of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into three corporations.

Speaking during a discussion on municipal administration in the Assembly, he said criticism from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders stemmed from “resentment” over not being consulted. “Did the BRS government consult anyone when it reorganised districts?” he asked.

He added that Hyderabad received Godavari and Krishna river water during the Congress government’s tenure. “In ten years of BRS rule, not a single litre of new water was brought,” he said, referring to the Godavari River and Krishna River.

BRS alleges unilateral decision on GHMC division

BRS member K P Vivekananda Goud criticised the move, saying the decision to split GHMC was taken unilaterally without consulting public representatives or stakeholders.

“Back in 2024, the government issued a memo on GHMC expansion. When questioned in the House, minister Sridhar Babu denied it. But in December 2025, 27 corporations were merged into GHMC and 300 new divisions were created,” he said, calling the process unscientific.

He also said land acquisition for Future City and plans to bring Godavari water to the Musi River were initiated during the tenure of K Chandrashekar Rao.

Raising civic concerns, he alleged mosquito menace had increased in the city and questioned the pace of infrastructure projects. “If only 2% work is done in a year, will no action be taken against the contractor?” he asked.

During the discussion, whip Adi Srinivas demanded that remarks made against the chief minister be removed from Assembly records.
