HYDERABAD: With declining revenues and rising loan repayments, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is under financial strain. Officials in the finance wing have raised concerns over repayment of the corporation’s loans.

The budget allocation centred on the Core Urban Region (CUR) has left no clarity on how these debts will be repaid.

Uncertainty over loan repayment plan persists

The issue has triggered debate on whether the debt burden will be split among three corporations or if an alternative solution will be proposed. Officials said a final decision will be taken soon.

To fund various development works in Greater Hyderabad, GHMC has raised loans totalling ₹5,780 crore through term loans and municipal bonds. The monthly repayment burden has become a concern.

Allocation details raise concerns

Of the total budget, ₹2,654 crore has been allocated to Hyderabad City, while ₹55 crore has been earmarked for other areas. However, there is no clear roadmap for loan repayment.
