Deputy Mayor Srilatha promises to escalate Hyderabad’s rumble strip issue to Telangana Chief Minister

HYDERABAD MAIL NETWORK
Hyderabad: A persistent social media campaign against unscientific rumble strips in Hyderabad has finally caught the attention of city authorities. The campaign, led by Harsha, the admin of Team Road Squad, has gained significant support from the public and has ultimately resulted in a positive response from Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy.
For years, commuters in Hyderabad have been experiencing adverse effects from poorly designed rumble strips. These strips have been associated with increased accident rates and various health issues, such as back pain. The campaign, initiated on X (formerly Twitter), raised awareness about these concerns and called on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take immediate action.
Deputy Mayor Srilatha acknowledged the severity of the problem and assured that the issue would be escalated to the Telangana Chief Minister’s office and the GHMC Commissioner for a swift resolution. Team Road Squad expressed gratitude for the official’s support and hopes for the removal of these problematic road features.
As per your conversation, this issue has to implement across city, I will surly take this issue as personally to @TelanganaCMO @CommissionrGHMC to rectify issue in early basis.
Thankyou,@GHMCOnline

Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy tweeted, “As per our conversation, this issue needs to be addressed citywide. I will personally take this matter to the Telangana Chief Minister’s office (@TelanganaCMO) and the GHMC Commissioner (@CommissionrGHMC) to rectify issue in early basis. Thank you.”
Harsha, who is leading the campaign, pointed out that the main issue lies in GHMC’s disregard for Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines on rumble strip thickness. The inconsistent implementation of these strips has led to confusion among drivers and exacerbated the problem.
To highlight the impact of these rumble strips, Harsha conducted research among delivery personnel, who frequently encounter these obstacles. The excessive number of rumble strips on major roads, such as Road No. 45 Flyover and Cable Bridge, has been identified as a primary cause of discomfort for commuters.
While high-end cars with thick tires may experience less impact, two-wheeler riders and vehicles with thinner tires are particularly vulnerable to the jolts caused by these poorly constructed rumble strips.
The GHMC acknowledged previous errors in the rumble strip project but failed to take necessary corrective measures. The campaign is now awaiting the government’s response and hoping for the adoption of a safer alternative, such as the trapezoidal hump, to ensure the well-being of Hyderabad’s commuters.
