GHMC reviews hotspot pollution strategies under NCAP at CLMIC meet

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on December 5, 2025, conducted a City Level Monitoring and Implementation Committee (CLMIC) meeting under the National Clean Air Programme to strengthen data-driven strategies for reducing pollution across identified hotspots in the city.
Chaired by C N Raghu Prasad, Additional Commissioner, the meeting brought together senior officials from the Traffic Police of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Hyderabad Metro Rail, Civil Supplies, Transport Department, Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, Environment Protection Training and Research Institute, technical consultants from the Central Pollution Control Board and GHMC line departments.
Focus on hotspot-specific pollution control
Officials reviewed hotspot-wise pollution data, progress under the City Action Plan and micro-level strategies related to road dust reduction, vehicular emission control, regulation of industrial pollution, strengthening of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management, expansion of green cover and real-time monitoring at major construction sites.
Raghu Prasad stressed the need for coordinated departmental action and stricter enforcement to achieve measurable improvements in air quality.
Environmental scientists Prasad Dasari and N Jayasri from TSPCB presented detailed recommendations and identified four priority corridors requiring immediate and long-term interventions:
Punjagutta–Patancheru corridor
Charminar–Nampally heritage zone
Hi-Tech City transit corridor
MGBS–Secunderabad Railway Station stretch
According to TSPCB, these stretches need targeted action through GHMC funds and NCAP support.
Key action points finalised
The committee discussed a set of operational steps, including:
Deployment of additional electric buses in high-traffic, high-pollution corridors.
Promotion of electric three-wheelers to replace conventional auto-rickshaws.
Mandatory pollution-under-control compliance for all vehicles with strict checks on older, high-emission vehicles.
Installation of foot overbridges and pelican signals at critical traffic points such as Telecom Nagar and Indiramma Nagar across all three commissionerates.
Enforcement to discourage open burning of plastic and other municipal waste.
C&D waste: Citizens urged to use authorised collection services
GHMC urged citizens to hand over construction and demolition waste only to authorised agencies Ramky and Soma Sreenivas Reddy at nominal charges and to use recycled material wherever possible.
For lifting C&D waste, residents may contact toll-free numbers 1800-120-1159 and 1800-203-0033, or visit the GHMC website.
The meeting concluded with participating departments reaffirming their commitment to strengthen coordination, adopt clean-air technologies and accelerate implementation of NCAP activities.
