Khairatabad gets ready for monsoon season, GHMC begins desilting

Hyderabad/ Khairatabad: Gearing up for the upcoming monsoon season, GHMC paced up the desilting works in Khairatabad zone to avoid the flooding during heavy rains. GHMC, Khairatabad Zone consists of 5 circles: Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Goshamahal, Khairatabad & Jubilee hills.
The GHMC envisioned to complete the desilting in major nalas spread over 171.256 Kms. Thanks to the GHMC speedy process which has now completed 53.96 kms. Desilting works are taken up every year before onset of monsoon to avoid inundation / floods.
According to the official statement released by GHMC on the review of Desilting works-2024, “Overall 63 works have been sanctioned for an amount of Rs.10.73 crores. Desilting works are taken up mechanically in major nalas and with bucket cleaning in other storm water drains. The silt is carted to Jawahar Nagar dumping yard and payment is made based on the weigh slips”.
All the desilting works are in progress. Desilting works have been speeded up and will be completed by 31st May 2024, so that water flows freely in storm water drainage network and nalas and to avoid water stagnation in the monsoon season.
Balkapur Nala
Meanwhile, on Wednesday M Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban development (MA & UD) paid a visit to Balkapur nala in Mehdipatnam and oversaw the desilting works and expressed satisfaction over the works done so far and directed to speed up the process. Out of total 9.64 Kms a length of 4 Kms has already been desilted.
Further Dana Kishore directed the officials to take up safety arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents. “The chain link mesh is being set up and reflective signage boards have been arranged. Further, it is decided to set up CCTV cameras at vulnerable points. It has also been decided to create awareness among the residents through Self Help Groups not to throw garbage into the nalas and to follow the precautions,” said GHMC in an official statement.
