GHMC announces One-time scheme offer for property taxpayers

To avail this scheme, property owners need to pay the principal amount of their tax dues up to the financial year 2024-25. This scheme, designed to reduce the burden on taxpayers, applies to both residential and commercial properties within GHMC limits. Even those who have already paid their dues with interest and penalties up to March 2025 will be eligible for a 90% adjustment of the interest and penalty paid against their future property tax payments. The scheme aims to address the significant outstanding property taxes of Rs. 10,000 crore, including Rs. 3,000 crore in arrears and Rs. 7,000 crore in interest, from the remaining 6.80 lakh property owners out of a total of 19.50 lakh. Surprisingly, even government-owned properties have accumulated arrears of Rs. 5,500 crore. To facilitate this scheme, the GHMC will be holding the Property Tax Parishkaram program every Saturday from March 8 to March 29 at all GHMC circle offices.
GHMC Announces One-Time Property Tax Settlement Scheme

Hyderabad: Providing a major relief to property tax owners, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has introduced a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme offering an opportunity to clear the accumulated arrear interest.

As part of this scheme, property tax payers are being offered a 90 percent waiver on accumulated interest arrears. However, the property owners are required to pay the principal amount of their tax dues up to the financial year 2024-25.

The state government has issued an order to reduce the burden on taxpayers and the thousands of property owners of both residential and commercial properties under the GHMC limits are eligible to avail this OTS facility.

The taxpayers who have already cleared their due including interest and penalties up to March 2025, 90 percent of the amount they paid as interest and penalties would be adjusted against their future property tax payments.

“A One Time Scheme (OTS) will be provided for the waiver of 90 percent of accumulated arrear interest on property tax, provided the taxpayers clear the principle amount of property tax till the year 2024-25 together with 10 percent of interest on accumulated arrears in one go in respect of all properties under the OTS under GHMC,” according to official announcement.

M Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Government, stated that the government decided to implement this scheme after a thorough review of the GHMC. He added that the scheme has been introduced in the interest of the public and to enable the property owners in clearing their dues.

Out of 19.50 lakh property taxpayers, nearly 12.70 lakh have paid their property taxes while the remaining 6.80 lakh property owners outstanding property taxes amounts to Rs. 10,000 crore which includes Rs. 3,000 crore in arrears and Rs 7,000 crore in interest on the unpaid dues. Surprisingly, 1,800 government-owned properties have accumulated arrears to the tune of Rs. 5,500 crore.

According to GHMC commissioner Ilambarthi, the Property Tax Parishkaram program will be held every Saturday from March 8 to March 29 at all GHMC circle offices.
