GHMC allocates Rs. 8,440 crores for city’s growth & development in 2025-26

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council has approved an estimated budget of ₹8,440 crore for the financial year 2025-26. The revised budget for the previous year, 2024-25, was also approved at ₹8,118 crore. The approval came during the 10th General Body meeting of GHMC, held on January 30, 2025, at the GHMC headquarters, chaired by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi.

Prior to the meeting, council members observed a two-minute silence in memory of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.

Mayor Vijayalakshmi expressed gratitude for the support from the state government, especially from Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, for allocating funds to ensure that there would be no shortage for infrastructure and welfare projects. She emphasized the need for close coordination between officials and public representatives for the city’s development.

The meeting also addressed several ongoing developmental projects. Vijayalakshmi called on all stakeholders to collaborate to provide essential infrastructure to the city’s residents. She underlined the importance of working together to achieve comprehensive urban development.

Corporators raised concerns about various issues affecting the city, including sanitation management, installation of streetlights, and development in peripheral areas. They also suggested launching a special drive to recover taxes from corporate schools that were not paying their dues. The importance of increased revenue generation for GHMC was also stressed.

On the occasion, GHMC Commissioner Ilambrathi assured that efforts would be made to improve sports facilities and parks. He also confirmed that the street lighting issue would be resolved soon, with contractors already appointed for the task.

MP and Ex-Officio Member Etela Rajender highlighted the need for the council to earn the public’s trust through coordinated efforts to resolve city issues. He also urged that more funds be sought from the government and that welfare programs for the underprivileged be prioritized.

Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy expressed satisfaction over the meeting’s proceedings and called for collective efforts to improve city services. She also noted the importance of increasing sanitation staff to manage cleanliness effectively.

The meeting, which was disrupted when a few BRS members attempted to block proceedings, was conducted smoothly after marshals removed them in accordance with Section 89/1 of the GHMC Act.

Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, zonal commissioners, senior officials, and corporators from various divisions were among those present at the meeting.
