GHMC to build 30 automated parking complexes in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: With traffic emerging as the biggest challenge in the city, experts have stressed that multi-level parking complexes are the only sustainable solution. Acting on this, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has revived its earlier proposals and finalised plans to construct 30 automated parking complexes across the city.
The proposal was first drawn up in 2017, but projects did not move forward. Following the success of automated complexes at KBR Park and Nampally, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has now directed GHMC to expand the model.
GHMC commissioner K V Karnan has already sent a proposal for a complex near Charminar bus stand to the government for approval.
Parking capacity and need
Total road length in Greater Hyderabad: 2,000 km
Vehicles in circulation: 80 lakh
Average traffic per km: 4,000 vehicles
Target projects: 30 automated complexes
Minimum capacity per facility: 3,000–4,000 cars and 1,000 two-wheelers
Officials said the new facilities will help reduce congestion on arterial roads while ensuring safer and more efficient parking.
