GHMC to launch 10-day monsoon cleanliness drive across 150 wards
The civic body will take up 30 wards in each of five two-day blocks August 11-12, 13-14, 16-17, 18-19 and 20-21. Field operations will begin at 06.00 IST each day, according to a GHMC press note issued on August 7.
GHMC’s official records confirm that the corporation has six zones, 30 circles and 150 election wards.
Waste, debris and silt removal to be intensified
During the drive, GHMC teams will remove municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D) waste and green waste dumped at legacy points along roads, nalas, lakes, footpaths and parks.
Vehicles deployed by HIMSW Pvt Ltd will handle municipal solid waste, while the respective C&D waste management agencies will clear construction and demolition waste.
Engineering teams will fill potholes, repair and flush catch pits and replace damaged catch pit covers. They will also remove silt and floating material near culverts and inspect chain-mesh fencing along nalas for public safety.
All field officers have been directed to report their attendance through the wireless set. GHMC has issued a detailed circle-wise and ward-wise schedule to zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners of police (sanitation), deputy executive engineers (solid waste management) and circle managers.
Dengue-hit localities to get focused health operations
Assistant medical officers of health and entomology field teams will carry out anti-larval operations and fogging in the wards.
Teams will make focused household visits and conduct awareness activities in localities where dengue cases have been reported.
The drive will also cover installation of rainwater harvesting systems, surveys of non-residential buildings and cleaning of parks. Information, education and communication (IEC) activities will promote four-way waste segregation.
Officials told to submit progress reports daily
Zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and field-level executive officers have been directed to update ward-wise and circle-wise progress by 15.00 IST every day.
GHMC has instructed officials to ensure that the drive is implemented according to the prescribed schedule.
