Hyderabad airport launches cargo terminal 2 with 100,000 MT expansion capacity

HYDERABAD: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has opened Cargo Terminal 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport(RGIA). This marks a key step in the airport’s growth and strengthens its role in India’s air cargo and logistics sector.
To meet this growing demand, the terminal offers advanced infrastructure for airlines, freight forwarders, logistics companies, and regulatory agencies. It covers 16,864 square meters and is built for operational efficiency and future expansion. The terminal can handle 50,000 metric tonnes per year, expandable to 100,000 metric tonnes.
Reflecting on this achievement, Kadhir Kadhiravan, CEO of GHIAL, said, “The opening of Cargo Terminal 2 is a defining moment for us and for Hyderabad’s emergence as a leading cargo and logistics gateway in Asia. This new terminal is built to serve demanding cargo, from life-saving pharmaceuticals to time-critical shipments, with the speed and reliability global supply chains need. Going forward, this terminal will be central to our mission of building world-class cargo infrastructure that supports regional growth and puts Hyderabad on the global logistics map.”
Adding to this, Sanjiv Edward, CEO of GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics, said, “This launch strengthens India’s air logistics ecosystem and shows our commitment to world-class infrastructure and value-added service for the industry.”
In terms of infrastructure, the terminal has dedicated areas for inbound and outbound cargo, spacious processing zones, multi-level storage racks, and large areas for shipment handling. A key feature is the fully temperature-controlled pharma zone for pharmaceutical and perishable cargo. Advanced temperature control and monitoring ensure reliable cold-chain operations, supporting Hyderabad’s role as a global pharmaceutical hub.

Additionally, the terminal streamlines processing, speeds up regulatory clearances, and reduces cargo dwell time. Improved connectivity, dedicated road access, and reliable power ensure uninterrupted service for all cargo types, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, express consignments, and general cargo.
The terminal supports environmental responsibility with energy-efficient lighting, optimized HVAC, and resource-efficient materials. Intelligent design reduces equipment idling and energy use. A multi-level fire detection and alarm system ensures high safety standards for cargo, infrastructure, and personnel.
The launch of Cargo Terminal 2 advances Hyderabad International Airport’s goal of becoming a leading global logistics hub, combining scale, precision, sustainability, and safety to support regional economic growth.
