Garbage piles up near Ammuguda Railway Bridge, Secunderabad, Exposing lack of civic sense

Hyderabad: Residents near the Ammuguda Railway Bridge on Vivekanandapuram-CDM Road, Secunderabad, are raising concerns over heaps of garbage that have been accumulating in the area, creating an unhygienic environment for pedestrians. The situation has drawn attention to a growing lack of civic sense among some residents.
A local social media handle, Hi Secunderabad (@ApnaSecbad), posted a message on the platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address the issue. The post reads, “Hello @GHMCOnline @CommissionrGHMC. Please get this cleaned. Agree that most people are uncivilized with zero accountability to keep the city clean & not discard trash all over, but you still have a job to do. Location: Ammuguda Rly Bridge.”
In response, one user (@ShareNSeek4659) argued, “Don’t say people are uncivilized. The system makes them that way. The same people go abroad, like to the UAE, and don’t do these acts because the system doesn’t allow them. Politicians and the administration are uncivilized, not the people.”
Hi Secunderabad’s admin replied, partially agreeing with the comment, but adding, “We all have a moral compass and a responsibility as good citizens. This trash is left by people who refuse to pay garbage collection fees. They secretly dispose of it early in the morning or late at night.”
Another resident, Arvind Ramachander, expressed frustration, stating, “This is atrocious and common near every railway station. Malkajgiri station has a lane that feels like a landfill. Have we moved to a bin-free society or a trash-filled one?”
Krishna, a local resident, echoed the sentiment, pointing out, “Same issue near Safilguda to AOC stretch.”
For residents facing water or sewage issues, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) can be contacted via their customer service numbers at 155313 or 040-23300114, or through their social media platforms. The GHMC can be contacted through its official handle on ‘X’ (@GHMCOnline).
The HMWSSB, which was established in 1989, is responsible for managing the city’s water supply and sewerage services, while the GHMC oversees the city of Hyderabad, serving a population of 7.9 million.
