Three held for carrying ganja on Godavari Express from Vizag to Hyderabad
Secunderabad: The Telangana Excise and Enforcement Police apprehended three smugglers for transporting 56 kilograms of ganja from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad aboard the Godavari Express on October 2, 2024. The operation took place on Wednesday morning at the Secunderabad Railway Station, following a tip-off information received by the Director of Enforcement, VB Kamalasan Reddy.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Saidhulu from Uttar Pradesh, Suman Sen, and MD Sohel from West Bengal.
According to the reports, each accused was carrying approximately 20 kilograms of ganja packed in separate bags.
Telangana Excise officials estimate the total value of the seized cannabis to be around Rs. 12 lakhs. Pradeep Rao, along with sub-inspectors Balaraju and Sandhya and other staff members, led the Special Task Force (STF) team, which executed the operation successfully.
It was earlier reported that the Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) in Madhapur, along with the Petbasheerabad police, has successfully intercepted a trafficking operation involving ganja chocolates sourced from Punjab to Hyderabad. One drug peddler was arrested, and authorities seized 64 packets (12.68 kg) of ganja chocolates, totaling 2,560 chocolates, along with 80 grams of dry ganja and one cell phone. The total value of the seized items is Rs. 1,05,900.
In another incident near Serilingampalle Railway Station, the Telangana Excise Enforcement Department apprehended a woman caught in the act of selling ganja disguised as turmeric. The operation led to the seizure of 10 packets of ganja, which were concealed within yellow packets typically used for turmeric.
The arrested individual has been identified as Neha Bhai, a native of Dhoolpet, who was found to be behind the illicit trade.
