Ganesh Nimarjan procession violence

Tarnaka: Two men who were arrested for a violent altercation during a Ganesh Nimarjan procession in Hyderabad were denied bail by Nampally court. The joyous Ganesh Nimarjan procession in Hyderabad escalated into a violent confrontation after a resident raised objection over the use of a DJ sound system, leaving one man seriously injured.

The case unfolded in the early hours of September 19, 2024. According to the police, the incident occurred at about 2.30 a.m, involving Devani Eashwar and Kurakula Bhaskar in the procession on Tilaknagar main Road, beside Apollo Pharmacy, Hyderabad, in Nallakunta police station limits, with loud DJ music. When the victim suggested moving the DJ in front of their residence as it is creating a disturbance, the accused beat him indiscriminately.

“In the scuffle, Devani Eashwar, carrying a flower decoration blade in his pocket, attacked the victim, causing severe bleeding injuries at his right shoulder and left hand with an intention to kill him,” said police. Subsequently Nallakunta police of Hyderabad commissionerate arrested the accused and sent them to judicial custody.

The accused approached the local court for bail. During the hearing, their lawyer claimed they are innocent, have nothing to do with the allegations levelled against them, and are no way connected to the case. “They do not have criminal antecedents. The entire allegations levelled against them are false. There was no intention to kill the injured person,” informed the accused through their advocate. As this is the first bail application, they requested to grant bail.

Hyderabad police ban DJ systems

Additional Public Prosecutor opposed the bail petition, arguing the accused are trouble mongers, addicted to disturbing peace and tranquility in the society. Prosecutor argued that if released on bail, they may abscond or induce, threaten, or promise to anyone acquainted with the case. The investigation is pending, so the petition should be dismissed.

Hyderabad police banned DJ sound systems from October 1, 2024. It is pertinent to note this in its notification, the police said, “It is observed that the use of DJ Sound Systems/DJ Sound Mixers/Sound Amplifiers/Other High Sound Generating Equipments and firecrackers in these religious processions has alarmingly increased recently. There is competition among the procession organizers to hire bigger and louder DJ Systems. The use of DJ Systems is harmful to the human body and causes noise pollution. Prolonged exposure to the high decibel sound from these DJ Systems is extremely damaging for human health.”
