Gandhi Hospital Rules Out Ebola in Sudan Patients
HYDERABAD: Two Sudanese nationals undergoing treatment in the isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, have tested negative for Ebola, hospital authorities confirmed.
Abdul Razeem Mohammed, 23, who arrived from Sudan for treatment at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital isolation ward on September 4 after developing symptoms associated with Ebola.
Pune Lab Confirms Negative Test Results
Samples collected from the patient were sent for testing, and the results returned negative for Ebola. Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Vani and nodal officer Vamsi Krishna said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) supervised virology laboratory in Pune confirmed on Saturday evening that no traces of the Ebola virus were detected in the samples.
Another Sudanese national, Mohammed Yahya Yagoub Ahmed, 35, who is also receiving treatment in the isolation ward, had earlier tested negative for Ebola.
Precautionary Measures Continue
A 22-year-old man who arrived from Sudan as an attendant to Abdul Razeem Mohammed has been placed under home quarantine as a precaution, although he has shown no symptoms of Ebola.
The negative test results for both patients have brought relief to medical authorities and residents across Telangana.
Second Test Planned After 48 Hours
Hospital officials said fresh samples will be collected after 48 hours and sent for confirmation testing. If the second report is also negative, the two patients will be discharged from the isolation ward and shifted to home quarantine for 21 days, Vamsi Krishna said.
