HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy criticised the recent Gaddar Awards ceremony, alleging bias in favour of filmmakers from Andhra Pradesh and calling the event “Khaddar Awards”.

MLA questions award choices, alleges Andhra-centric recognition

Rajeshwar Reddy said the awards ignored contributions from Telangana artistes despite their role in the success of certain films. He pointed to the blockbuster song in the film “Raju Veds Rambai”, written by Telangana movement poet and Dalit activist Mittapalli Surender, as a key factor behind the movie’s popularity.

According to the MLA, neither Surender nor the film’s lead actor received recognition at the ceremony. He claimed that awards were given “exclusively to five Andhra talents”, raising concerns about regional imbalance in honouring creative contributions.

The MLA urged organisers to ensure fair representation for Telangana artistes in future selections.
