Gachibowli villa theft accused sent to remand
RAIDURGAM: Police have remanded a Nepali couple accused of stealing valuables from a villa in Gachibowli’s Hill Ridge Villas, along with two others who allegedly assisted them. Police recovered 7.8 kg of gold jewellery and 1.5 kg of silver articles from the accused.
The accused, identified as Kamal Shahi and Vimala Shahi, natives of Nepal, had recently joined as domestic workers at the residence of Prakash Pai. The couple allegedly stole the valuables and fled. Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Ramesh disclosed details of the arrests on Thursday.
Couple brought to Hyderabad by air
The couple secured employment through Suresh, who arranges jobs for Nepali workers. According to police, the villa owners travelled to Mumbai on June 6. That night, the couple allegedly entered the house and stole the jewellery.
They later boarded a train from Secunderabad and travelled to Uttar Pradesh. From there, they allegedly attempted to escape through Rampur in another vehicle. Acting on information shared by the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, local police intercepted and detained them.
A team led by Gachibowli Division Inspector Naresh reached Uttar Pradesh on June 7 and, after obtaining special permission, brought the accused back to Hyderabad by air.
Police search for key conspirator
Police said Suresh, who allegedly arranged the employment and helped plan the theft, was spotted near a villa window on the same day. Security personnel at the gated community detained him briefly before releasing him, after which he fled.
Investigators said Karan Bishwakarma was also involved in planning the theft. He has been arrested, while efforts are under way to trace Suresh.
SIM card clue leads police to accused
After the theft, the couple allegedly travelled by autorickshaw to the residence of Kamal Shahi’s sister, Kalpana Shahi, in Hyderabad. Police said they removed their existing SIM cards, inserted new ones and discarded the old SIM card covers at the location before proceeding to Secunderabad.
The discarded SIM card covers helped investigators identify the mobile numbers used by the accused. Police tracked those numbers and alerted authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, leading to the arrests, the Commissioner said.
