Two minor girls rescued within four hours of kidnapping complaint in Gachibowli
HYDERABAD: Gachibowli police rescued two minor girls within four hours of receiving a complaint about their kidnapping and apprehended a 45-year-old man near Ghatkesar railway station, police said on Tuesday.
The girls, aged four and three-and-a-half years, were allegedly taken from a labour camp in Kondapur on August 24. Police said the accused, who lived in the same camp, fled with the children.
According to police, Devid Murmu, 46, a labourer residing at the Labour Camp in Kondapur, lodged the complaint at about 02.00 IST on August 25. He said his daughter Pramila Murmu, 4, and another labourer’s daughter, Sangeeta Hemaram, 3½, were playing in the camp at about 16.00 IST on August 24.
Murmu told police that he noticed Chaku Soren, 45, a resident of the same camp, taking both children away from the location. Police registered a case at Gachibowli Police Station and launched an immediate search.
Police alert railway stations along routes towards Kolkata
As suspicion fell on Soren, police formed special teams and circulated information about the accused and the missing children to various police stations and railway authorities.
One team checked railway stations and other possible transit points. Alerts were sent to railway police and law and order police stations on routes towards Kolkata, as well as Ghatkesar, Jangaon and Kazipet.
Technical investigation and search efforts led police to trace Soren near Ghatkesar railway station during the early hours. Gachibowli police alerted railway authorities and Ghatkesar police, who coordinated with the team to apprehend Soren and rescue both children.
The rescued children were identified as Pramila Murmu, daughter of Devid Murmu, and Sangeeta Hemaram, daughter of Hopan Hemaram. Police said both children were brought to Gachibowli Police Station and later handed over to their parents or guardians as per procedure.
Police said the case was detected and the children rescued within four hours, crediting the response and coordination between Gachibowli police and the Special Operations Team, Serilingampally Zone.
Police verify accused’s claims about previous criminal cases
Police identified the accused as Chaku Soren, son of Munshi Soren, 45, a native of West Bengal who was residing at a labour camp beside CHIREC Public School in Gachibowli.
During questioning, Soren allegedly disclosed that he had been involved in two criminal cases registered at Karandighi Police Station in West Bengal. Police said he disclosed that one case related to an attempt to murder and another to rape.
Soren also allegedly told police that he had undergone five years of imprisonment at Islampur Jail in West Bengal.
Police further said Soren disclosed his alleged involvement in kidnapping people and selling them to individuals for money. The victims were allegedly used for begging, police said.
Police said these disclosures are being verified and Soren is being questioned about his alleged involvement in the offences and any other criminal activities. His antecedents are also being verified.
Police issue child safety advisory to labour camps
With several labour camps and construction projects operating within Gachibowli police limits, police advised builders, contractors, labour camp managements and security agencies to maintain registers of labourers, residents, visitors and workers.
They were also asked to record visitor entry and exit details, prevent unauthorised persons from entering camps, verify the identity and antecedents of workers and maintain functional CCTV cameras at entry and exit points.
Police advised security personnel to remain alert, particularly during night and early morning hours, and immediately inform camp management and police if a child goes missing or someone attempts to leave with a child under suspicious circumstances.
The police also urged contractors and camp managements to conduct regular child-safety awareness programmes and asked the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police.
