Gachibowli Hit-and-Run; Student Remanded to Custody

HYDERABAD: A luxury Mercedes-Benz car created chaos in Gachibowli on Saturday morning after it rammed a vehicle from behind and dragged a traffic constable on its bonnet, police said.
Gachibowli police registered two separate cases and remanded the accused, Gurrampati Tarun, to judicial custody. A court sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody. He was shifted to Kandi jail in Sangareddy district. Police collected CCTV footage related to the incident.
According to a complaint filed by Rahul at 12.30 pm on Saturday, he was driving from Narsingi towards Kukatpally when a white Mercedes-Benz car hit his vehicle from behind near Nanakramguda. He lost control and rammed the divider. The accused allegedly fled towards Gachibowli without stopping.
On receiving information, traffic constable Narsimulu, who was on duty at the IIIT junction in Gachibowli, tried to stop the car. The driver initially slowed down but suddenly accelerated towards the constable. Narsimulu fell on the bonnet while trying to save himself.
Despite knowing that the constable was on the bonnet, the accused continued to drive at high speed, endangering his life. The car stopped only after other motorists intervened.
Police conducted a drunken driving test after taking the accused into custody. His blood alcohol level was recorded at 160 mg per 100 ml, far above the permissible limit. Police identified the accused as a 24-year-old student from Narsingi.
