Four-year-old boy drowns in uncovered water sump near Gachibowli anganwadi

HYDERABAD: A four-year-old boy, identified as Nikhil Teja, drowned after accidentally falling into an uncovered water sump near an anganwadi school at Nanakramguda, Gachibowli, on Friday.
According to Gachibowli police, Nikhil had gone to the anganwadi school in the morning. When he did not return home by evening, his worried parents went to the school and enquired with the teachers and other children. They learnt that Nikhil had been playing with other children near the school in the afternoon but was not seen later. Teachers assumed he had gone home.
“On checking the water sump located near the school, the parents found the body of Nikhil floating in it. It appears that the child may have accidentally fallen into the open sump and drowned,” police said.
The body was recovered and shifted to the government hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
