Four killed, eight injured as tractor trolley overturns in Jagtial

Tractor trolley accident in Jagtial district Telangana

HYDERABAD: Four people, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed and eight others injured when a tractor trolley overturned on the outskirts of Mogilipet village in Jagtial district on Tuesday evening.

The victims were identified as Mangalapuram Lalita, 40; Sampangi Sayamma, 35; Peddi Reddy Gangu, 55; and Thungena Vaishnavi, 14. All were residents of Mogilipet village in Mallapur mandal.

Police said 15 agricultural workers had gone to turmeric fields near Rathnapur village in the same mandal on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred around 18.00 IST as they were returning home.

According to Metpalli circle inspector V Anil Kumar, the tractor trolley overturned due to rash and negligent driving and plunged into a roadside ditch adjoining agricultural fields. The trolley fell on the passengers, pinning several of them underneath.

Villagers rushed to the spot and pulled out the injured. “Three women workers died on the spot. Nine injured were shifted to hospitals in Metpalli, Jagtial and Karimnagar. One of them, a 14-year-old girl, was declared brought dead at Metpalli. The remaining eight are out of danger,” the inspector said.

Based on statements of the injured, police booked a case against the tractor driver, Gangadhar of Mogilipet village. He is on the run, police said.
